    1. Hi Mikequana, This is a good start - but how were they also different?

  2. there lives where over all pretty good they where happy and wealthy. Due to Anja's father Artie was able to obtain ownership of a factory.Until Anja had there first son that for some reason caused her to break down. At this point they as a couple went to a rehabilitation center of sorts and after spending some time there she gradually got better and was happy again. they were similar to young adults today because they where happy and in love and had a few problems that they could work out but on the other hand they where very wealthy for a young couple and could afford things like to go to a luxury rehabilitation center. -Dalton Greenlee

  3. They did things like work or move in together. But they were different in that they lived with Anja's parents, a thing that, as far as I know, is pretty uncommon in today's society. They also went to this cool rehabilitation center, which most people couldn't afford.~Noah B.

  4. Their lives were similar because they had jobs, had friends, and had their own families. The difference is that Anja had a breakdown, so she ended up having to go to a rehabilitation center, which a lot of people don't usually have to deal with things like that.

  5. They were very happy with each other, things happened just like relationships happen today. Things were generally a lot better than most, they were fairly wealthy, Vladek even had his own business. There's a few things that are off, like the fact they live with Anja's parents, and Anja was distraught after having her child.

  6. They were happy and were a normal couple. Anja had a son with Vladek but she got into a depression afterwards. Vladek went with Anja to take her to a sanitarium so she wouldn't be alone and because she needed help. Vladek during this time had opened up his own textile factory. The couple had a wealthy life and at times some problems but that's every couple. I think what is different is they always heard from friends relatives that basically anit-semitism was going on and how some people were never heard from again. In todays society, we don't have that problem going on.

  7. Anja and Vladek were both young and ready to face the world. Vladek only wanted to support his family and Anja just wanted to be a good mother. early on in the story they live quite normal lives and Anja's father helps Vladek with his business. After the draft for the polish war efforts their lives change quite dramatically. Once Vladek returns from the war they have to face the horrors of the Nazi regime.

  8. Anja and Vladek lived very similar lifestyles as today's. They got married, had a baby, had spouts of drama and waves of happiness. She became more depressed than most, but that could happen today too, though it is still not a common lifestyle. I believe that her parents' helped them out more than parents would today. Because of her parents they lived a more wealthy lifestyle instead of a middle class life. As time went on, anti-Semitic laws were made which affected them in ways that would never survive in the U.S.

  10. Anja and Vladek lived a very normal life before the war. They got married, had a baby and started a new business. They had some troubles with Anja's depression issues, but they made it through those and continued to live their life together. They got help from Anja's parents to start their business together which was nice of the parents. In these ways they had a similar lifestyle compared to a young couple today. A difference is that in the midst of trying to start a new family there was a German take over on the horizon. The Nazi's began to take over early in their lives and this is definitely something that is not currently happening to young couples today. The stresses of the war more than likely added stress to their marriage.

  11. Anja and Valdek lived very normal lives prior to the breakout of WWII. They had jobs, went out together, got married, wanted to start families and support them. They are very similar to people in our generation now because they do all of these things. Valdek and Anja lived with their parents for awhile which is very different than anything that would happen today. That sort of thing is generally frowned upon in our society and many parents dont comdone it. Also, many people become stressed from marriage and need help! So Anja's going away to the rehabillitation center was very normal and similar to our time as well. The woman being obsessed with Valdek and causing Anja to think that he was not being faithful to her is the final similarity that i could find to our time within this graphic novel! -Anne-Charles Dod

  12. Artie and Anja had a pretty normal life before and leading into the war. They got married and had a child. Artie was lucky that his father in law was able to help him start and factory and make money. After Anja had the baby she had a break down and was able to go to a luxurious facility with Artie for medical attention. Their life was very similar to a newly married couple today. The one thing I felt was different was that they lived with Anjas parents through out their marriage unlike most couples today. (Rula Tareq)

  14. Anja and Vladek were happy and had a good life together before the World War. They got married and had a baby. They had it all and Vladek even had his own business with some help from Anja’s father. But they had money and Anja’s family was very wealthy and had a big status in the town. Unfortunately after Anja had the baby she became depressed but they all supported her and she went to an expensive medical center. I think their life is kind of the same as normal new married couple today, but something I found strange is that they lived with Anja’s family and her parents help them with money issues like give Vladek money to his new business and they paid for the medical center etc. I don’t know if it is normal that your parent support you when you are an adult in US, but in Denmark parents normally don’t do that.

  15. In general their lives were similar to relationships today. They were in love and wanted to start a family. Since Anja was having depression issues, she was sent to a rehab center. In today's society that could happen. Money issues are definitely present in new marriages as well, much like Anja and Vladek's. Parent's are not always there to help with those present money issues.

  16. Vladek and Anja lived very well before the Holocaust; their lives were very similar to the young adults today. They had money, jobs and a family full of love. but their lives were also different than to the adults today, because now we see both the man and the woman working to pay for their goods and their needs and with Vladek and Anja it was only Vladek working and Anja stayed home most of the time, because of the help of Anja’s dad Vladek could always count on having food on his table and a house for him and Anja, wich it doesn’t happens frequently in today’s days. Another difference is how Anja got so frustrated most of the time and she wasn’t happy even though she was in love and had a child, this is not common on today’s world.

  17. Vladek and Anja were a young couple before the holocaust happened. they were like any other young couple today. Anja was a rich girl who wasn't the best looking, but vladek fell in love with her personality the first day they met. I feel their lives were not that different from young adults today there wasn't as much technology. Anja's dad paid for most of the things that Vladek and her needed. They had a child that they loved and cared for. They had a pretty good life even though Anja did have mild depression when Vladek was away at the factory he owned. -Hayden groff

  18. Vladek and Anja were a couple who just had a baby. Vladek was working on starting a business out of the factory that Anja's dad gave him. Overall life before WWII was not bad. Many of the people living there were feeling fine about their economic status. Both Anja and Vladek were a couple who were fine before the war struck. After the war almost everyone was in jeopardy. There were people living on the streets who had never planned to do so. It is kind of funny that Anja would get mad over almost everything. Boy did she have something in for her. She had a new born and a wonderful husband. Now here life is in jeopardy what will she do. Life before the war was basically easier. Life after was harder.

  19. Vladek and Anja were a young couple, doing well for themselves thanks to Anja's dad, so everything pre-war was very good for them. They lived a fancy and catered life. They're alike with today's society because they were a young couple that had a child, that is very common today. something different is that they didn't have the technology we do today, to ensure better health for children and adults. 20. Before WWII, Vladek and Anja were very similar to young couples of today. They were a young couple in love. They had the typical dreams of getting married and starting a family. (Maus I, p. 30). However, they were also very different than the young people of today. Anja had a job translating Communist messages into German. (p. 27). Her family was extremely wealthy, and she had the best of everything. When Vladek became interested in her, he checked her medical condition very closely to be sure she was not sickly, and he was very concerned about how wealthy her family was. He also wanted to look nice and have the best of everything. (p. 19).

  21. They were similar to young adults today because they have some of the same things we have like jobs, friends and family. They wanted a normal life like us too. Just to have a normal family and being successful. Her dad kept them both of them well off and payed for a lot of there things. Something that was different was in the early part of there life the Holocaust was beginning and put a lot of stress of them and there marriage.

  22. they went to get-togethers /paries and they attended school. they also owned a family bissness and had children and wanted the "typical" family life. one that is diffrent is that he moved into her family house

  23. They had jobs and raised families like everybody else, also hung out with friends. i think something different is it was the beginning of the holocaust and was a stressful time.

  25. They lived their lives and went to visit their families. Today thanksgiving is a time when you visit with your family like anja and vladek did. Then they started to have a family.

  26. Vladek and Anja lived a normal life as teens do today, but they were a little spoiled due to their parents being very wealthy. Their parents helped them and babied them most likely more than teens today. The only difference is that the Anti- Semitic affected and changed how they went among their daily lives
