Elie was angry with his father when Idek beat him. How would you explain these irrational feelings exhibited by Elie, when the beating was clearly not under his father's control?

  1. Although Eli's father had no power to stop Eli from being beaten, it was Eli's instnct to expect protection from his father, no matter what the circumstances. - Matthew Eis

  2. Eli was humiliated by his father's beating. He felt this way probably because it is very difficult to watch someone you know be hurt when they cannot defend themselves. Eli, being a young person, did not fully know how to react to an event like the beating. He channeled his angry for the people who beat his father on his father himself knowing that his father could not do anything about it.

  3. Eli was very mad because he was watching someone he knows personally getting beaten and knowing that there was nothing he could do to stop him. His father didn't have the power to stop Eli from being beaten. - Cheyne Davis

  4. Personally i think Elie was put into an awkward position. Because he always looked for his father's protection, and when he was being beaten by Idek, he expected his father to stand up for him. But his father wouldn't even do that, he knew he had no control over this. But i think as a father he still should have atleast tried to help out his son and not him get beat for no apparent reason.

  5. He went to the dentist to have his tooth filling removed but when he got to the dentist Elie pretended to be sick so that he wouldn’t have to get his tooth removed. Then the dentist told him to come back when he felt better. Elie went back later but he then again pretended to be sick. When he came back again he found out the dentist had been arrested and Elie got his filling. - Matthew Eis
